How Did Divergent End?

If you haven’t picked up the original Veronica Roth books, you might not know the answer to this question. Let’s recap; Roth originally released Divergent as a trilogy (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant). When Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Films optioned the books for film, it was decided they would break the final book, Allegiant, into two films: Allegiant and Ascendant. Haven’t heard of Ascendant? You’re not alone. Unfortunately, when Allegiant hit the big screen, it was poorly received, and barely broke even with budget. Thus, the final film, Ascendant, was canned.

In an attempt to wrap up the series, a TV Movie was announced, with potential plans to create a TV series spin-off. However, the cast response was less than enthusiastic and, without the original actors returning, interest in the series died out. Thus, the project never came to fruition.

TLDR; It’s a shame fans never got to see Woodley return to the screen to complete Tris’ story, but you can pick up a copy of Allegiant anytime and satisfy your curiosity!

Want to grab the full series instead? In addition to the original trilogy, Roth also released “Four”, a companion book consisting of pre-divergent stories and additional scenes, told from another character’s perspective (Tobias). Check it out below:
